Traditional Portraits? – {Melbourne Photographer}

Friday, November 27th, 2009

When hiring the service of a photographer its always good to find someone who you feel is a good fit for you and your family. Its good to explore, look through the photographers galleries, check for consistency of decent work that is the sort of style or look you are after. Ask your friends who they used? were they happy? do you like the feel of their images? Do you like colour or have a preference for black and white? Traditional or not?Call the photographer, have a chat, see if you connect.

I get many families who are after black and white images. Many families who are after something more natural, a little more real. I also get families who like fun images, running, laughing having fun… far from your standard traditional portrait.

Most sessions though we will aim for a few ‘traditional’ type poses, a few more all look at the camera now. Why? Because often the grandparents love them and sometimes its just what people are after… and sometimes not.

For example these 2 gorgeous boys were so fun to photograph. We got running playing having fun images, a few interactive family shots and a few posed.

We captured these two gorgeous images of the boys together.

the first a more ‘traditional portrait’

and the second… something a bit more ‘fun’

the family loved both but were especially drawn to the second, more ‘fun’ portrait as they felt it really showed the boys for who they were.

I adore both too!

Watching them grow – Melbourne Family Portraits.

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I’m often asked ‘How often should we have our family portraits done?’

It’s difficult to answer as it varies for the needs of each family. Some come every few months others once a year, others once every few years. It depends on needs and budget and how your family grows and changes.

Updating your family albums each year is a wonderful thing. Having a gorgeous series of images on your wall by the same photographer covering the years as your family grows can be just gorgeous and a real talking point for visitors and a wonderful keepsake for your children and family for years to come.

I love when customers come back again and again, not only is a huge compliment to myself and my business, but it is wonderful to watch their families grow and change.

Meet the ‘H’ family.

I first met Leah back in mid 2006 when she was pregnant with her first child.

I was then there to capture her first born, a son Max, in his first few weeks.

then in 2008 we captured some updated images of Max and the family.

In late 2008 mum was expecting again so I was called upon to capture them again.

I’m hoping over the holidays I get a chance to photograph my own children, I have a large wall canvas idea in my head, just need the shots to put on them!

I photographed a friends children recently and my younger 2 children tagged along for the ride. I took the opportunity to grab an image of my daughter whilst there, the setting and light was just right. Its my new favourite of her…

Newborn sweetness – Melbourne Newborn and Pet Photography

Monday, November 16th, 2009

I was so excited to arrive at this clients house. ‘L’ was so warm and inviting and I felt instastantly at home once I met her ‘brood’.

For those who’ve read my little Bio on my website, you’d know I like animals as well as children. We have quite the ‘menagerie’ at home with chooks, cat, dog, rabbits and guinea pigs. So when clients ask ‘Are you OK with pets’ its always a resounding YES! I especailly enjoy when they are involved in the session. Included as part of the family.

‘L’ s little family included 5 furry friends. 1 or 2 of the cats only made a brief appearance but the 2 gorgeous dogs and one of the cats lounged around and were part of the session. I’m looking forward to shooting little ‘E’ again soon and capturing the rest of their furry family aswell!
