I wanted to share the last part of that with you all.

On the 4th of August my beautiful grandmother had a fall which caused a brain bleed. She had been living in a nursing home for some time now after slowly deteriorating with alzheimers. After her fall she never really woke again and my wonderful family of aunts, uncles, father, cousins all rotated a bedside vigil to make sure she was not alone for the week when she passed peacefully on the 10th August. We’re just back from a lovely weekend at rye to farewell her. Funerals are often morbid and sad occasions, but I can say my grans was unique and she was sent off in a way that she would have treasured and loved.

I want to share some images of my gran with you. Gran was a remarkable woman, a true matriach of her family (which consists of majority females!) She was happy and easy going, truly non judgemental. She loved each and everyone of us regardless of our faults or mistakes we made through life. She had amazing strangth and courage. As she grew older in her years , life never slowed down, she travelled the world alone in her 70′s, she studied numerous times achieving all sorts of qualifications throughout her later years. She had a passion for gardening and genealogy, she loved a glass or 2 of bubbly and a strong passion for family. Her passion for her family led her to research and compile our very extensive family tree and history and organising a huge family reunion in Beechworth back in around 1993. She was a remarkable woman who will dearly missed but always remembered by all who knew her.

I photographed a friends children recently and my younger 2 children tagged along for the ride. I took the opportunity to grab an image of my daughter whilst there, the setting and light was just right. Its my new favourite of her…

Mothers Day is always touched with a small hint of sadness in our household as both my own mother and my husbands mother passed away (his 10 yrs ago, mine 5 yrs ago). It is a time when I think of what it is my children miss out on by not having their own ‘Gran/Nan’ in their lives.

Mothers Day isn’t all sad though, after all I get to celebrate being a mother myself, this year I was woken with cards and craft made at school, an ‘I love you Mum’ mug form the school stall and some paper and a pen with the same. I also had vegemite toast made for me by one of my daughters which was lovely.

For lunch we all headed down to Rye to my aunts little ‘shack’ and had a very relaxing lunch outdoors. It was wonderful siting around talking with the ‘older’ women of the family, my aunt, one of her cousins, a great aunt and my wonderful gran who at 87 we are lucky to still have her with us. It was a lovely afternoon of sipping wine and chattering away, sharing stories and having a laugh. A really perfect Mothers Day.

I wanted to share this image I took my wonderful gran, who is very one very special lady. My children adore her even though now with her Alzheimers she usually doesn’t remember who they are or who I am. She still loves our company though and loves to spend time with the children.

Gran’s alzheimers has recently gotten worse and she had to move from her independent living in a retirement village to a nursing home which she strongly dislikes and voices whenever we visit her. So when we visit we always take her out and I love these memories we are creating for myself and my children. Gran doesn’t let age or her alzheimers slow her down which she proved on a recent outing to the park with my children when she was seen by amused onlookers kicking the footy with my children and even giving the flying fox a go ‘as it looked fun and she’d never been on one before’.

So I wanted to share this image of my Gran with my children. I love her smiling face, so happy and I love my childrens personalities shining through, My eldest with her hands protectively on grans shoulder, my son on the side gently leaning in though really he’d rather be off kicking the footy and my middle daughter laughing and being the character she is. This portrait is going on my wall at home. It is one I know I will treasure being able to look at for years to come.

We got a mix of weather whilst away, some sunny days and ones that were freezing cold! Ofcourse the kids had to have a paddle, even if it was only 10 degrees!

It still suprises me to be a mum to an 8yr old. An 8 yr old with the most adorable dimples and a loving nurturing personality to boot
