Family Portrait Photography {Mt Waverley}

People often ask me ‘what age is the best age to get my babies professional portraits done?’ If you haven’t had portraits captured professionally before, my answer is usually ‘right now’.

We do have some suggestions for recommended ages to be photographed.

We begin with pregnancy photography , which we recommend photographing maternity sessions at around 32-36 weeks of pregnancy. This way you’ve got a nice bump but you hopefully are not too tired or feeling too bloated yet (and helps to capture those babies who are in a hurry to enter the world early!)

Next of course is the newborn photography session. This we recommend for as soon as you feel up to it. The advantage of us coming to your home to capture your images is you don’t have to stress about packing up everything and getting out the door with a new baby. We recommend photographing newborn babies at roughly 5-21 days of age. Most of our newborn clients book in for their photo shoot when they are still pregnant. We are then always flexible with moving dates if your baby arrives early or decides its too comfy inside to come out on time.

After newborn, the next step is baby photography, capturing your little baby between 5 and 8 months is ideal. At these ages we get to capture fabulous smiles and expressions. We photograph them playing with their toes, sitting and clapping, cuddling mum and dad and ofcourse much more. At 5-8 months we can photograph in your home or we can photograph outdoors or better still we can do a combination of both.

Then we have the next stage in baby photography. The 10 month to 18 month stage. This is the time where you child is pulling themselves up onto things, crawling and walking. Playing and laughing. Holding hands with mum and dad. The world has become a place they like to explore so we love to get outdoors for these photo sessions.

If your child is outside of any of these ages you can still have beautiful baby portraits captured of them. If you are not sure give us a call at the studio 9568 1441 and we can help you out.

Now to share a sweet little 11 month old we photographed recently. To view more images from this recent photo session please visit the February album on my Facebook page

Letters that make us Smile (2) – {Melbourne child portrait photographer}

Being an ‘on location’ photographer means we can photographer at a favourite spot of yours, somewhere that has meaning. This family chose a park they frequent regularly, they even name the little bridge after one of the little boys aunts, as they walk over it to visit her. It was my pleasure to meet them at ‘their’ park and create some wonderful heirlooms for them to treasure.

“So back in August, for my 40th birthday, I thought that I might get some pictures taken of my darling little son and his new puppy. Fate, maybe, bought me to Susan, I was nervous about portraits as the few I had gotten done previously (not by Susan) were not very good and this time I was adding a young puppy to the mix, had to spell disaster!

Let me say that on my first contact with Susan she was such a pleasure to talk to that I was automatically at ease and very eager to have the pictures done.

Weather and a bout of illness for my son meant that we had to wait for the pleasure of meeting Susan face to face. After several months Melbourne finally put on some sunny blue skies and we all met down at a lakeside area that my son and puppy know well.

Susan took so many wonderful photos, she was at absolute ease with my son and had so much patience with my puppy. I would like to say that Susan is the ultimate professional but that description does not do her any justice. Susan’s open friendly manner and wonderful eye for a great picture has pleased me more than I could have imagined. I now have some extremely beautiful photos of my son and his little puppy.

I will certainly be going back for future portraits and can highly recommend her excellent services.”

Letters that make us smile (1) {Melbourne Child Photographer}

How lovely it is to receive feedback from our happy customers, whether it be a lovely little email, a phone call to say thanks or a surprise gift at the studio door. We love when our customers are happy. It makes us smile.

I thought it would be lovely to blog some of the feedback we get. So you can smile along with us.

“When I decided to have my children photographed, it was never about dressing them up in silly costumes and sitting them in oversized flower pots, or forcing them to sit still through a stiff family portrait session. It was only ever about one thing…. love.

You know that beautifully innocent look that your baby spontaneously gives you which just brings you to your knees. It catches your breath and you melt with overwhelming love. It was this look that I wanted captured forever in a timeless photograph. The photographer I chose would be charged with the enormous responsibility of capturing that look so that for the rest of my life I would fall in love with my children all over again each time I looked at these photos. And even more importantly, I wanted my grown children to see themselves as babies and see in a photo all the love our family shared. When I am gone there will be no words, only these pictures, and I needed them to say that my children were loved, so loved.

And so the photograher I chose was Susan Darcy.

I let Susan into the sanctuary of my family to capture us together in the beautiful simplicity of our everyday life. I trusted her completely with what I wanted and at times during the photoshoot I hardly even noticed she was there. My children loved Susan and we were all relaxed enough to just be ourselves and have fun together.

And there it was. The look. Susan had found it, and when I saw it in her photographs it hit me like a freight train and left me weeping with tears. And I fell in love with my children all over again.

Thank you Susan, for giving my family this timeless and precious gift that we will treasure always. I could not have asked for more.

Donna Maloney.”

Thanks Donna for your wonderful feedback, it was an absolute pleasure capturing your family.
